12119RESOLUTION NO. 12,119 2 3 A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE EXISTING INTERLOCAL 4 AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS 5 AND PULASKI COUNTY, ARKANSAS, GRANTING THE LITTLE 6 ROCK AMBULANCE AUTHORITY ( "LRAA ") D /B /A 7 METROPOLITAN EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES ( "MEMS ") AN s EXCLUSIVE FRANCHISE TO PROVIDE AMBULANCE SERVICES TO 9 PULASKI COUNTY, ARKANSAS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 10 11 WHEREAS, the Little Rock Ambulance Authority ( "LRAA "), d/b /a Metropolitan 12 Emergency Medical Services ( "MEMS ") currently holds the exclusive franchise to 13 provide all ambulances services (emergency and non - emergency) to Pulaski County per 14 interlocal agreement between the City of Little Rock and Pulaski County; and 15 WHEREAS, the existing interlocal agreement expires November 5, 2005, and the 16 City of Little Rock and Pulaski County wish to extend said interlocal agreement for 17 another five years to continue such exclusive franchise for ambulance services to 18 Pulaski County; and 19 WHEREAS, MEMS has represented to this Board that is has the capability and 20 resources to provide such service without increasing expenses or rates for Little Rock 21 citizens; and 22 WHEREAS, this Board believes that it is beneficial to continue to have MEMS 23 provide ambulance services to Pulaski county and thereby promote the health and 24 welfare of the citizens of Little Rock and Pulaski County; and [PAGE 1 of 2] Resolution Extending Existing Interlocal Agreement between the City of Little Rock, Arkansas and Little Rock Ambulance Authority 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 s 9 10 11 12 WHEREAS, the delivery of ambulance services (emergency and non - emergency) to Pulaski County will enhance MEMS' financial soundness and increase its ability to deliver high - quality emergency medical services to all citizens. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: Section 1. The Board hereby authorizes the execution of a five -year extension of the Interlocal Agreement with Pulaski County, Arkansas, beginning on the date the Interlocal Agreement is signed. Upon the expiration of the five -year term, the Board authorizes a month -to -month extension until a formal extension is approved by both cities.
