5729 RESOLUTION NO 5,729
A RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO THE FILLING AND/OR
CHANGING COURSE IN THE FLOODPLAIN AREAS OF
FOURCHE CREEK AND ITS TRIBUTARIES; AND FOR
OTHER PURPOSES
WHEREAS , encroachments in the Little Rock Floodplain areas
(as per United States Corps of Engineers ' publication Fourche
Creek and Tributaries Part I, 1969) have substantially reduced
the flood-way capacity of the city ' s streams and waterways; and
WHEREAS , a concerted effort is being made at all levels of
government to deal with the problems of flooding and floodplain
management; and
WHEREAS , the United States Corps of Engineers now has under
way a Flood Insurance Study for the City of Little Rock which,
when completed in October of this year, will be extremely bene-
ficial to all levels of government and the general public con-
cerned with any type construction in the said floodplain areas .
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS .
SECTION 1. The City of Little Rock respectfully requests
the United States Corps of Engineers to refrain from issuing any
permit allowing the filling and/or changing the course of any of
the floodplain areas herein referred to until such time as the
Flood Insurance Study for the City of Little Rock is completed
in October of this year, and the report thereof duly made.
SECTION 2 . This Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its adoption.
