5650 RESOLUTION NO. 5,650
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION, UNITED STATES COAST GUARD,
TO APPROVE THE REVISED PLANS OF THE ARKANSAS
STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION
OF THE EAST BELT FREEWAY BRIDGE ACROSS THE
ARKANSAS RIVER; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES .
WHEREAS , the Department of Transportation, United States Coast
Guard, has through its public notice 2-284 dated December 10 , 1976
invited interested parties to express their views in writing on
the suitability of the location and the adequacy of navigation
clearance of the proposed East Belt Freeway Bridge across the
Arkansas River; and
WHEREAS , the City of Little Rock in order to protect the
health, safety and welfare of its citizens has a vital interest in
the construction of the bridge; and
WHEREAS , the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock has
been informed of the revised plans of the Arkansas State Highway
Department to construct this bridge at a location approximately 500
feet up river from the Little Rock Port Facilities and is to include
a bridge span of 500 feet between two piers for the navigation of
waterway users on the Arkansas River; and
WHEREAS , location of the proposed bridge will not interfer
with the operation of the Little Rock Port Facilities and that the
bridge span of 500 feet exceeds the criteria for the McClellan-Kerr
Arkansas River Navigation Project by approximately 200 feet it should
not interfer with the navigation of waterway users in this locality.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS .
SECTION 1 . The Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock
hereby requests that the Department of Transportation, United
States Coast Guard approve the revised plans of the Arkansas State
Highway Department for the construction of the East Uelt Freeway
Bridge across the Arkansas River.
SECTION 2 . The Director of Little Rock Port Authority is hereby
requested and directed to furnish to the Department of Transportation,
United States Coast Guard, in writing, pursuant to its Notice for
comment of interested parties dated December 10, 1976,more details
in support of the approval of the said revised plans of the Arkansas
State Highway Department for the construction of this bridge along
with a copy of this Resolution.
SECTION 3 . This Resolution will be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption.
