A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE ARKANSAS CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO
SUPPORT THE RE-ENACTMENT OF GENERAL REVENUE SHARING; AUTHORIZING
THE MAYOR TO MAKE KNOWN THE POSITION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
TO THE CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION; ENCOURAGING THE CITIZENS OF
LITTLE ROCK TO SUPPORT RE-ENACTMENT OF GENERAL REVENUE SHARING;
REQUESTING CITY MANAGER TO PREPARE STUDY OF VARIOUS SOURCES OF
REVENUE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the financial resources of the City of Little Rock are receiving
ever increasing pressure from the forces of inflation; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Little Rock need and deserve the
highest quality of public facilities and services possible; and
WHEREAS, the loss of General Revenue Sharing would cause an immediate
cutback in the present level of municipal services in Little Rock.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The Arkansas Congressional Delegation is requested to support
re-enactment of General Revenue Sharing and that annual appropriations be increased
upward at least in keeping with the rate of inflation.
SECTION 2. The Mayor of the City of Little Rock is hereby authorized to
convey the sentiments of the Board of Directors to the Arkansas Congressional
Delegation in the manner in which he feels most appropriate.
SECTION 3. The citizens of Little Rock are urged and encouraged to write
their Congressmen urging support for re-enactment of General Revenue Sharing.
SECTION 4. The City Manager is hereby requested to complete a study of
existing ways for the City of Little Rock to raise revenues, and a means of
enacting a City Income Tax for revenue purposes and present his recommendations
to the Board of Directors for consideration.
SECTION 5. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and
after its adoption.
