A RESOLUTION HONORING JOHN T. MERIWETHER
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY
OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS .
SECTION 1. Contending for the record that the accom-
plishments of the City Government in Little Rock, Arkansas
during that period of time when John T. Meriwether served
as City Manager through July 16 , 1973 have been exceeded
by no other period or administration in the history of this
City, the following findings and conclusions are drawn as
to the man, John T. Meriwether, with the intent to honor,
recognize and convey gratitude by those whom he served and
with whom he worked in this City and community :
a) A man of impeccable integrity and total dedication
to effect responsible and worthwhile results in any given
undertaking.
b) He recognized that "man has never been so wrong as
when he thinks he is so right" and therefore addressed himself
to the solution of the multitude of problems , issues and pro-
positions with which he dealt daily with an open mind and in
doing so permitted government to function as "government of,
by and for the people" .
c) A strong conviction that citizen participation in
local government is critical to the end that government serves
the best interest of the community as a whole.
d) A person capable of reasoning and forming judgments
with the caution and deliberation of a man far his senior in
terms of years and yet possessed with the ambition and im-
patience of the young man "who didn ' t know it couldn 't be
done and so he did it" .
e) And yes , a man like all the rest with some prejudice
and some bias - a human being.

SECTION 2 . The record of accomplishment under the
leadership of John T. Meriwether should be a challenge to
all future administrations in this City.
SECTION 3 . This Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its adoption.
