A RESOLUTION PROPOSING THE CLOSING OF LAHARPE
BOULEVARD FROM STATE STREET TO ASHLEY STREET
TO EAST BOUND TRAFFIC FOR A PERIOD OF APPROX-
IMATELY 120 DAYS COMMENCING ON OR ABOUT AUGUST
20, 1972 ; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, Construction schedule from the standpoint of time for
the Convention Center Complex now under construction adjacent and
east of the Robinson Auditorium which includes the Robinson Auditorium
all in the City of Little Rock has become critical in that contractors
for the various projects have an inadequate material storage space
and working room to carry out their particular respective responsib-
ilities ; and
WHEREAS, In the judgment of the Board of Directors of the City
of Little Rock this problem area can only be alleviated by the closing
of LaHarpe Boulevard from State Street to Ashley Street, and utilizing
the two east bound lanes of traffic therein involved for the purpose
of storing materials and operating room; and
WHEREAS, Alternate routes for east bound vehicular traffic on
LaHarpe Boulevard have been developed to serve the travelling public;
and
WHEREAS, The timely prosecution and completion of the Convention
Center Complex is a matter of extreme urgency and paramount financial
interest to the City Government of Little Rock and the public generally;
and
WHEREAS, The Arkansas State Highway Department should be requested
to permit a temporary barricade that would close east bound traffic
on LaHarpe Boulevard for the period of approximately 120 days com-
mencing on or about August 20, 1972 .
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS .
SECTION 1. That the Arkansas State Highway Department is hereby
respectfully requested to approve and issue a permit to the City of
Little Rock to barricade and close east bound vehicular traffic on
LaHarpe Boulevard between State and Ashley Streets for a period of
approximately 120 days commencing on or about August 20, 1972.
SECTION 2 . This Resolution will be in full force and effect
as of this date.
