118781 2 RESOLUTION NO. 11,878 3 A RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS SUPPORT FOR THE ARKANSAS 4 TRAVELERS ORGANIZATION AND SUPPORT FOR THE 5 CONTINUED USE AND /OR REDEVELOPMENT FOR RAY WINDER 6 FIELD; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 7 8 WHEREAS, the Advisory Board of the Midtown Redevelopment District No. 1 9 ( "the Board ") is charged with promoting redevelopment and economic vitality in the 10 Midtown area of Little Rock, and 11 WHEREAS, for over 90 seasons the Arkansas Travelers have provided Little 12 Rock and Central Arkansas with minor league baseball in the midtown area, and 13 WHEREAS, the Arkansas Travelers Baseball Club, Inc. and the Arkansas 14 Travelers draw more than 200,000 people per year to the midtown area, thereby 15 contributing to the economic viability of the area, and 16 WHEREAS, revitalization efforts in a number of cities have been strengthened 17 and enhanced by professional baseball organizations, and 18 WHEREAS, there may be potential efforts underway in which Arkansas 19 Travelers Baseball Club, Inc. will move outside Midtown to a new location, such as in 20 North Little Rock. 21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF 22 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: 23 Section 1. The Advisory Board wishes to express its appreciation to the 24 Arkansas Travelers Baseball Club, Inc. for the contributions it has made to the midtown 25 area. 26 Section 2. The loss of minor league baseball from the midtown area would have 27 a major, direct and immediate negative impact on the midtown area in terms of [PAGE 1 OF 21 Resolution To express support for the Arkansas Travelers Baseball Club, Inc. 1 abandonment of a unique and architecturally significant facility and in terms of 2 economic displacement of current business and activity. 3 Section 3. The loss of minor league baseball from the area would have a 4 substantial indirect impact on the area and would make the mission and purpose of the 5 Advisory Board more difficult. 6 Section 4. The Little Rock Board of Directors will work diligently with the 7 Arkansas Travelers Baseball Club, Inc. and Metro - Little Rock business and civic leaders 8 toward the redevelopment of the current facility should the ballpark for the Arkansas 9 Travelers be relocated to another part of the county. 10 Section 5. Should a new ballpark be located in downtown Little Rock or North 11 Little Rock, it shall not serve as an entertainment venue in direct competition with the 12 Julius Breckling Park. 13 Section 6.
