A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE PASSAGE OF HOUSE BILL NO. 84 SUB-
MITTED TO THE 64TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS ,
SAME BEING A BILL TO REDUCE THE WORK WEEK OF FIREMEN IN LITTLE
ROCK AND OTHER MUNICIPALITIES ; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES .
WHEREAS, House Bill No . 84 has been introduced before the
House of Representatives of the 64th General Assembly of the
State of Arkansas ; and
WHEREAS, said Bill provides principally for the reduction
of the firemen ' s work week from seventy-two (72) hours to fifty-
six (56) hours per week in certain municipalities, including the
City of Little Rock; and
WHEREAS, firemen employed in Little Rock, if not in other
municipalities, under the existing work week provisions and working
conditions enjoy an enviable employment relationship with extremely
advantageous fringe benefits, including time off, retirement, dis-
ability, sick leave, vacation and civil service protection; and
WHEREAS, the passage of House Bill No . 04 would seriously
increase the cost to the City of Little Rock of maintaining fire
service at its present excellent levels; and
WHEREAS, with current millage limits which now exist on
the taxing powers of cities, the City of Little Rock could not
financially maintain fire service at its present level, or would
find it necessary to curtail other necessary municipal activities;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock
hereby declares that it shall be the policy of the City of Little

Rock to resist and oppose House Bill No.84 and does urge each member
of the Pulaski County Delegation and all other Delegates to the 64th
General Assembly to resist House Bill No . 84 with every means avail-
able.
SECTION 2. This resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption .
