2203f I v RESOLUTION NO. 2203 off` A RESOLUTION SETTING FORTH THE POLICY OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK FOR ITS STREET PROGRAM FOR THE YEAR 1958; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock will undertake its largest street program in its history during the year 1958, and, WHEREAS, it is the belief of the Board of Directors of the City that the said street program should be uniform in its application and fair to all citizens of the City, now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. That the following provisions are hereby adopted as the policy of the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock regarding its street program for the year 1958; a. The City will resurface approximately 150 blocks of heavily traveled s±.re.ets in the City with l or 2 Inches of hot mix asphalt. This will cost $150,000. This list of s4:reets was arrived at after a careful inspection of all streets in the City by the City Engineer and by an analysis of the volume of traffic can these streets. Hot mix asphalt will only be put on streets that have curb and gutter and a ;e already improved. b. The City will begin a dust proof program on streets on the east side of the City and work to the west side on streets that are unimproved. This will be started on the east side of the City since the program was started on the west side of the City last year. This program will be done at no additional cost to the property owners and we plan to complete approximately 800 blocks, if the weather permits. c. Property owners who are interested in having a better street than the dust proof program can have a double penetration asphalt street by furnishing the materials and the City will furnish the labor. This will cost each property owner approximately $15. Property owners who desire this program can contact the City Engineer by telephone or mail for a petition. The property owners can then post a cashier' s check in the City Collectors Office or by cash. All property owners in each block must sign the petition. -2- d. On streets that are already asphalt streets, but are rough due to heavy traffic, the City will heater-plane these streets and seal them. Approxi- mately 200 blocks of this type of work will be done at no cost to the property owners. e. All streets that have drainage ditches will be graded and the ditches will be cleaned out. f. All alleys that are open in the City will be graded or worked on. g. All asphalt streets that have holes in them will be patched. h. Several streets will be widened where the width of the street impedes the traffic flow. The Board will make a decision on the exact streets to be widened in the near future. i. The City of Little Rock will work closely with the Highway Department and the Bureau of Public Roads it an attempt to get program approval of several major four lane streets. j . The Traffic Engineer will begin immediately to make all streets safe, to move traffic faster and to properly signalize many intersections in the City. k. The Street Department of the City of Little Rock will work vigorously to remove all wooden bridges and replace them with concrete bridges. SECTION 2.
