A RESOLUTION APPROVING AND ADOPTING
TING ,
THE PRELIMINARY DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR
THE METROPOLITAN AREA OF PULASKI
COUNTY, ARKANSAS.
WHEREAS, Studies by the Metropolitan Area Planning Commis-
sion indicate the continued urban growth of the City of Little
Rock and Pulaski County to a total population of between 364, 000
and 426, 000 by 1980, and
WHEREAS, It is the function of the Metropolitan Area Plan-
ning Commission, under the provisions of the Joint Planning
Agreement to prepare long range plans and programs to provide
for the coordinated development of the area as a guide for this
anticipated growth, and
WHEREAS, The professional staff of the Metropolitan Area
Planning Commission, in conjunction with the staff of the Little
Rock Planning Commission, has prepared a Preliminary Development
Plan which, among other things, indicates proposed land uses and
highways and river bridges that are considered as necessary and
desirable to provide adequate living, working and recreational
areas and traffic routes for the anticipated population of the
metropolitan area.
WHEREAS, The purpose of this Preliminary Development Plan
is to provide: (1) a general guide for the coordinated planning
for the physical growth and development of the metropolitan area
and the several political subdivisions within Pulaski County, and
(2) as a basis for further detailed planning studies that are to
be undertaken in the preparation of a General Development Plan
for the Metropolitan Area of Pulaski County, and
WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Area Planning Commission of
Pulaski County has approved and adopted said Preliminary Develop-
ment Plan at a special meeting held on January 30, 1957, and
WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Area Planning Commission, in
taking said action, did recommend that the City Council and the
Planning Commission of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas and the
other parties to the Agreement For Joint Planning formally con-
sider and adopt said Preliminary Development Plan.

WHEREAS, The proposed Preliminary Development Plan for
the Metropolitan Area of Pulaski County, as adopted and recom-
mended by the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission, has been
approved and adopted by the Little Rock Planning Commission as
a general guide for reference and use in its consideration of
local planning proposals and projects related to or affecting
the features indicated thereon.
NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Little Rock City
Council as follows:
Section 1. That the attached copy of the Preliminary
Development Plan be and is hereby approved and adopted and the
City Council hereby recognizes said plan as a general guide
for teference and use by the City and its constituent agencies,
boards and commissions in actions related to local plans and
programs affecting the physical development of the City of
Little Rock and the Metropolitan Area of Pulaski County.
Section 2. That this resolution of approval and adoption
shall be effective immediately.
