2131 RESOLUTION NO. 2131
A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE RIVERFRONT DRIVE, EXTENDING
GENERALLY FROM CROSS STREET , EAST TO CUMBERLAND STREET
IN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS , AS "La HARPE BOULE-
VARD".
WHEREAS , on April 1, 1722, Jean Baptiste Bernard de la
Harpe, a native of Saint Malo, France , and a noted explorer of the
Arkansas River and Red River, did reach the site of the City of
Little Rock and gave it the name of Little Rock, and
WHEREAS , the citizens of Little Rock are desirous of per-
petuating this exploit and commemorating and honoring the name of
Jean Baptiste Bernard de la Harpe by naming the Riverfront Drive after
him;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS :
SECTION 1 . That the Riverfront Drive, extending generally
from Cross Street, east to Cumberland Street in the City of Little
Rock, Arkansas , be designated as "La Harpe Boulevard" .
SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be sent to the
French Ambassador to the United States in Washington, D. C . , and
to the present Mayor of Saint Malo, France.
SECTION 3. That this resolution shall be in full force and
effect immediately upon its passage and approval.
