1546 RESOLUTION NO. 1546 WHEREAS, It has been brought to the attention of members of the City Council that thorough and proper cleaning of the streets and alleys in the downtown section of the city is not now being ac- complished with the present methods in use, and WHEREAS, Many cities are today using with great success the more modern Pressure Flusher type of street washer, and washing the main business streets and pavements. This method takes care of the pro- blem of cleaning or washing under parked automobiles, and also flushes the downtown catch basins and storm sewers, vaich often go for weeks between rainy days, without flushing, and WHEREAS, the present dry sweeper method, in addition to rais- ing a cloud of dust which settles back on the streets and sidewalks, does not pick up the dirt in small holes Or depressions in the pave- ment; and WHEREAS, regular opening and closing of fire hydrants in ob- taining water for use in the "Flusher" tends to keep the hydrants properly flushed and thereby aids in keeping the water system in the district clean and free from probable discolored water.
