R E S O I U T I O nr
NO. 1428
Whereas the City of Little Pock has for more than one-hun-
dred years Frown without any plan whatever for development of
a plan for City Parks or recreational centers , and,
Ihereas, all well balanced modern planned cities have parks
and recreational centers provided in connection with the city's
developemen.t , and ,
:'.hereas , the City of Little Bock has parks in its pastern and
Western Sections and none in its Southern and Central Section, and,
Wereas , the same citizens who own the State's property are
identically the same as own the County property and City property ,
and,
"-hereas , it would only be transferring- the title from one sub-
division of the government to another, and,
Whereas , the State has recently indicated by Legislative ,ict
its intention to abandon the Old Blind School consisting of several
city blocks , and,
Whereas , in a suit tried in the Pulaski Chancery Court it dev-
eloped that said -;roperty at present values , including salvage
amounted to less than 430 ,000 , and,
ihere._,s , said property would develope an ideal park, which is
badly needed, carry out a sensible plan for building the city, and
which would result in better health and happiness to the citizens,
TUEREFORE, PE IT RESOLVED, that it is the sense of the City
Council of Little Rock that the Old Blind School site should be
obtained from the State as a City Park for the use and benefit of
the people of the -:outs' _;nd. Central part of the city and that the
City Council hereby pledge the use of all its influence to bring
about the securing of said site as a park, and,
BE IT =PER RESOLVED, that the Legislative Committee of the
City Council be directed to wor with the State Legislature to
secure to acquisition of said property by Act of the legislature of
the State of Arkansas at its next session.
