AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LICENSING OF PUBLIC DANCES AND PUBLIC
DANCE HALLS, FIXING THE LICENSE FEE, PLACING CERTAIN REGULATIONS AROUND
THE CONDUCT THEREOF, PROVIDING FOR THE REVOCATION OF SUCH LICENSES
AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARK-
ANSAS :
Section 1. The words "public dance" as herein employed are
hereby defined to mean and include any dance, or any entertainment
or assemblage at or during which dancing shall be permitted, that
stall be given, held, operated or conducted for hire, profit or
gain; provided, however, that no fraternal organization, lodge or
club organized and existing as such ie good faith, shall be held
to come within the scope or purview of this ordinance, provided no
admission or other charge is made.
Section 2. All so- called dinner - dances, cabaret dances or other
assemblages or entertainments where dancing shall be permitted and
where there shall be made, received or collected a general charge
or fee for admission to the hall or other place at or in which such
entertainment or assemblage stall be held,( -where there shall be
made, received or collected a charge or fee for food or the service
of food, or for drink or the service of drint or for any other
entertainment shall be deemed and considered as public dances,
subject to the exception contained in the proviso which is a part
of section one (1) hereof.
Section 3. Any house, hall, pavilion or other enclosure,
whether or not under roof, or 4ny other place in which public
dances as herein defined are or shall be given, held,conducted,
operated or permitted is hereby declared to be a public dance hall
within the meaning of this ordinance.
Section 4. From and after the passage of this ordinance any
person, firm or corporation o- erating a public dance or public
dance hall shall obtain a license from *he City Collector and shall
pay for the same the amounts prescribed as follows:

The payment of the annual license fee for operating a dance
hall shall entitle the licensee to conduct in the public dance
hall so licensed as many public dances as shall be desired durp
ing the year for which the license shall have been granted. The
license fees hereby required stall be paid in full.before any
license shall be issued hereunder.
Section.5. Before any license shall be iasued, as provided
for in the ordanances of the City of Little Rock, any person,
f iry. or copporat ion for the purpose of conducting or engaging
in the business or vocation of running or carrying on a public
dance or public dace hall, application for such license Gall be
made to the City Collector not less than five (5) days prmot
to the time of the first dance to be conducted. under such li-
cense; and. sucb application shall, state what, if any, other
business is to be operated in the sam,- room or building with
such dance and any other information desired by the Llapor and
Police Committee. Such application shall be approved by the Mayor
and Police Committee before such license shall be issued, and
should the Mayor and Pplice Committee refuse to approve any ap-
plication, no license shall be issued to such person, firm oR`
corporation.
Section 6, All person *, firms and corporations holding li-
censes under this ordinance shall display the same in a con•
spicuou6 place it such dance ball for which the license is
granted..
Section 7. All persons, firms or corporations desiring 10
condUtt or carry on a dance hall 3ball, oefore, being granted a
license under this ordinance, remove all partitions, curtains,
screens, articles of furniture or other equipment or other de-
vices which serve partially or effectually to conceal full and
clear observation of all parts of such dance hall by any& effi-

provided, further, that all doors or xindows ahall 'be left clear
and unobstructed.

Section 8. It shall be made one of the conditions in granting
a license as provided herein to any person, firm or corporation
that all ordinances of the city shall be observed by such person,
firm or corporation in the conduct of such dance hall, and power
is hereby conferred upon the Polict Committee of the City Council,
upon notice and hearing, to revoke such license for the violation
of ouch ordinances.
Section 9. Any person, firm or corporation whose license
shall have 'been forfeited shall not be permitted or entitled to
secure a new license dntil the team for which the forfeited li-
cense was gra.ntt -d shall have expired.
Section 10. Any parson, firm or corporation violating any of
the provisions of this ordinanc(l, upon conviction thereof in the
'lunicipal Court, shall be fined in any sup, not less than Ten Dole
Tars 010.0$) nor more than One Hund ed Dollars (9100.00) for each
offense, and each day shall be considered a separate offense.
Section 11. 'phis ordinance b -73ng necessary for the protectiond
of the public peace, healti and safety, sball take effect and be
in force from and after its passage, and all ordinances in donflit
herewith are hereby repealed.
