That the Board of Public affairs of the City of Little Rock is hereby authorized and empowered to enter into a contract w%rith the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas for use in connection wI ith the ILedical School of the University of Arkansas for a period of twenty -five (25) years, and said contract may be in the following terms: "This contract this day made and entered into by and bet, -reen the Board of Trustees of the University of nrkansas, `nd the City of Little Rock, ':iITIrESSETH that: The Board of Trustees has been empoi -rered to erect. a permanent buildin for the School of T::edicine of the University of Arkansas, located at Little Rock, ,Lrkansas; and, WJI EREAS, The City of Little Rock owns the Little Rock General Hospital, and the City Council has passed an ordinance wherein the Board of Public Affairs of said City of Little Rock has been authorized and empowered to enter into a contract whereby certain rights and privileges are granted to the T:_edical School of the University of Arkansas in connec- tion ,with the Little Rock General Hospital for a period of twenty -five (25) years, in consideration of certain agreements riade and to be made by the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas: Now, therefore, The Board of Trustees of the University of e'.rkansas hereby agrees to furnish the necessary laboratory pathologists and bacteriologists and technicians to carry on the work in the Little .Rock General Hospital tirithout cost to the City of Little 3 Page 2. Ordinance No. Rock. It also agrees to furnish medical and surgical service to all charity cases coming there for treatment Yrithout cost to the City of Little Rock , Arkansas. "The City of Little Rock, in consideration of the services on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas, performed through the School of i::edicine of the University of Arkansas, hereby agrees that the said School of L11edicine, through its properly constituted authorities, shall have absolute control over all charity cases admitted to t'le hospital for treatment. "It is further agreed and understood that the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, is to control the appointment of the superintendent, nurses and clerical staffs, and .to continue to control all pay cases and admission of all charity cases which may in the future present - themselves for treatment; and the City of Little Rock agrees to maintain the Little Rock General Hospital as a standard A grade hospital, according to the rules of the Council on i'Sedi cal Education and Hos-Di tals of the American j'.= edical Association, and to furnish the foods and medicines for patients in the future as in the past, and all hospital furniture and equipment as in the past. "This contract and agreement between the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, and the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas, and their successors, shall be in full force and effect after its execution by the Board of Public Affairs of the City of Little Rock, and .shall remain in full force and effect for a period of twenty -five (25) years from the date of its execution: Provided, however, this contract shall be null and void if iithin one year frcza this date the work of construction shall not have been started on a building to cost approximately ,1275,000.00.for the School of iredicine of the University of Ire ansas; said building to be located ithin the corporate limits of the City of Little Ro ck.11 Section 2. 'I'!hereas, it is determined that a great many charity patients are taken in at the Little Rock General ospital and it is highly important that they be furnished such treatment as can be received from the School of 11'edicine of the University of Arkansas, and that such treatment should be available, therefore, an emergency is hereby declared, and this ordinance shall be in full force and eff ecLfrom and after its passage.
