Little Rock, Arkansas.
Gentlemen:
We are afraid other City Officials will be prejudiced against the Clean City Street
Sweeper if Little Rock buys for no better reason than that it is a home product.
JV not assign the better very apparent reason that tine Clean City Sweeper can actually
sweep +1O% faster, has sounder engineering, longer life built in, apparently half the
upkeep cost, lower per mile gasoline, tire and broom material coot, and with brakes
that make it far safer on steep hills and in congested traffic.
Automotive engineers have known for years that if the lire of a motor truck was 7 years
on pneumatic tires, it would be cut to years on solid tires. Little Roek1s experience
with the competing sweeper , under consideration, indicates that the absence of sprInrs
further out its life to 2-, years.
Apr believe competitore propaganda that there is greater risk in buying a brand new model
sweeper built in Little Rock than to buy their brand new model. Their new model has
solid tires, no springs to protect engine and sweoptng device from the punishment of
road pounding, and has sprocket chain final drive which assures its upkeep to be easily
double that of the local sweeper.
To countenance t?^e exagC erated soles clains of competitors for their nachine end to
believe their ridicule of a local product will set a precedent of strangling local
Initiative and enterprise and drive promising industries to other cities where merit can
win recognition without a legal fight.
ror Lawhon is entauiastic about the economical performance of the Clean City Sweeper
used in North Little Rock. Why not tell salesmen of other sweepers rho ridicule an
Arkansas product to put their new model sweeper on the streets of Little Rock, without
an order, and let it show what it can do in a side by side showdown demonstration with
the sweeper built here.
!,',bile the basic patents on pick -up sweepers have long since expired, yet the basic
Improvements in the rear broom of the Clean City Street '.'weeper which makes possible the
mounting of a pickup sweeping device on several makes of commercial motor trucks, all
of which are handled in Little Rock with parts depots maintained for service, assure
the Clean City Street Sweeper Company an enviable advantage in the market. The street
s- roper that Little Rock pur&wased in 1923 required 38 factory orders for 193 iterss
of repairs, costing $2,231.51. We believe that such annoying and expensive delays in
waiting for service parts to come from distant factory will cause =W cities to junk
such obsolete street sweepers and purchase Vie Clean City Street Sweeper vith loner
priced sorvice parts for truck carried in their ovm city, and vaith sweeping device so
simple in design that any emergency repair may be quickly had in MW well eeuipred local
machine shop.
T?:e above letter read and unsssimously approved at regular monthly meeting of April 7th, /fir
end ordered sent to the Mayor and menbers of the City Council, Board of Public Affairs
and daily papers.
