AN ORDINANCE LEVYING A PRIVILEGE TAX ON SLOT MACHINES
AND VENDING MACHINES: PROHIBITING THE GIVING OF PRIZES THEREON
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK:
SECTION 1• The business of owning, operating or leasing
automatic slot machines and vending machines is hereby declared
to be a privilege and it is further declared that Vae owner,
operator and lessor of such machines shall pay an annual license
tax.thereon for the privilege of operating said machines, upon
the following basis:

SECTION 2. Before any person, firm or corporation or agent
,.
and receiver thereof shall be permitted to operate any of the
slot and vending machines mentioned in Section 1, he shall first
urocure from the City Collector a license or permit, which permit
shall show that the license tax on each machine has been paid and
shall state the period of time during which said machine may be
i operated. The license fee herein mentioned shall be payable annually
in advance, provided, however, that at the request of the person
taking out said permit, the City Collector is hereby authorized
to issue a license for Six (6) months and to collect one half of the
annual license fee therefor. The dates for payment of the license fee

hereunder shall be January 1st. and July 1st. in each year. Any
licenses applied for durinC the last six months of the fiscal year
shall be issued upon the basis of one half the annual tax.
SECTION 3. It shall be unlawful for the oimer, operator,
lessor or receiver or the proprietor, of the place of business
where said machine shall be operated, to offer, promise or give any
prize, merchandise or other thing of value to any person playing
said machines who shall obtain a certain score or the high score
or attain any other result while playing upon said machine. Any
of the said persons who upon a trial for such offense shall be
found guilty shall be declared to be the operator of a gambling
device and shall be subject to the penalty now provided by law in
such cases.
SECTION 4. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation, or agent or receiver thereof to operate or permit
the operation of any of the machines, mentioned in Section 1 hereof
without having first paid the license fee provided for herein, and
any one found guilty of violating; the provisions of this ordinance
shall be fined in the sum of Twenty ,live (125.00) and each day
that such machine or machines may be operated without having paid
said license fee shall co nstitute a separate offense.
