5829i r t ORDINANCE 140. 5829 At4 0RDINAAICE AU 1.OTRIZING THE RESTORATION OF TIC OLD ARSENAL BUILDING INTO A 17TSM11 OF NATURAL HISTORY A14D ANTIQUITIES UPON LAND OWNED BY THE CITY IN THE LITTLE ROCK CITY PARK; PROVIDING FCP, TIE SELECTION OF A BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOP. TNT' T;ANAGEMENT AND CONTROL OF SAID MUSEUM: PROVIDING FOR TAE I:',1,,'YBERSHIP OF THE BOARD: AND FOR OTHER PQRPOSES BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKA14SAS Section 1. Sufficient funds have been pledged from private sources and from Federal aid to insure the cost of the Restoration and Remodeling of the said building, including a heatinp plant and lighting facilitiesm as per plans sub- mitted by Mr. H. Ray Burks, Architect, The Mayor is hereby authorized to allow the Restoration and Remodeling of said building upon City property located in the Little Rock City Park, to be converted into a Museum of Natural History and Antiquities, provided that said building shall be completed vri_thout any cost to the City* of Little pock. And the City of Little Rock hereby expressly exempts itself from any and all liability which might arise by virtua of the construction of said building; it beinP7 expressly* understood that said building is to be completed without any cost to the City of Little Rock. Section 2. Upon the completion of said building free of all encumbrance and charges the same shall then revert to and become the property of the City* of Little Rock, provided that upon the completion of said building free of encumbrance and cost to the Cit�r of Little Rock that the said City of Little Rock by the passage of this ordinance does agree to devote this building in perpetuity for the purpose named and to assume the cost of maintenance of said museum and its exhibits, it being expressly understood that the cost of maintenance will include the light- ing, heating, cleaning, necessary caretaking and supervision of the building and the exhibits. Section 3. The exclusive management and control of said R'useum of Natural History* and Antiquities is hereby- vested in a Board of Trustees to be composed of five (5) members as follows to- merit: The Yayor of the City of Little Rock shall be ex- officio members of said Board of Trustees. . p, :ter_ Ga`. The Board of Trustees shall annually make a report showing the work and activity of the Board for the -rear. Section 5. That the building is to be the home and meeting place of the Juseugi of Natural History and Antiquities at all times. It will continue its work of promotion and perpetuation of a Museum spirit and the collection of relics and antiques for the building. Section 6. If the City fails or refuses to provide for necessary Hinds to care for the maintenance of the said Yuseum of 14atural History and Antiquities then in that event after the expiration of thirty (30) days notice to the City Council that such failure or refusal exists, the maintenance of s,-id building may be assumed and taken over b,r the Yuseum of Natural History and Antiquities„ Sect!-on 7.
