AN ORDINANCE ADDING TO THE PERSONNEL OF THE LITTLE ROCK FIRE
DEPARTMENT; PROVIDING SALARIES FOR THE POSITIONS SO CREATED;
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK,
ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The Fire Department of the City of Little Rock
is hereby authorized to increase its personnel in the amount of
ten additional firemen to be chosen in the manner provided by
law.
SECTION 2. The additional firemen authorized to be em-
ployed under Section 1 of this ordinance shall be known as
apprentice firemen during the first year of their employment
by the Fire Department and until they are promoted into a
different classification.
SECTION 3. Each of the apprentice firemen authorized by
this ordinance shall receive a salary of Ninety and no/100
($90.00) Dollars per month during the first six months of his
employment; and shall receive a salary of Ninety -Five and no/100
($95.00) Dollars per month during the second six months of his
employment.
SECTION 4.' At the end of the first twelve months of their
employment, the ten apprentice firemen authorized by this or-
dinance shall become first year men, and shall receive the
monthly salary -tow provided for other first year men in the
Fire Department.
SECTION 5. The employment and salaries authorized under
this act shall become effective from and after May 1, 1940.
SECTION 6. WHEREAS, it is important to the citizens of
the City of Little Rook to have and maintain an adequate force
in the Fire Department and said Fire Department is vital to the
citizens of the City of Little Rock for the proper fire protec-
tion, an emergency is hereby found to exist and this ordinance

is found to be necessary for the immediate preservation of the
public peace, health, and safety, and the same shall be in
fwll force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
