ORDINANCE NO. 5938

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 5793 and PROVIDING FOR THE
POSITIONS OF CITY HEALTH OFFICER, CHIEF PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE, ONE
LABtATORY TECHNICIAN, FOUR PUBLIC HEALTH NURSES, ONE PART TIME
VENEREAL DISEASE CLINICIAN, ONE DENTAL CLINICIAN, FIXING THE SAL-
ARIES, TRAVELLING EXPENSES, THEREOF, REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN
CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. From and after July 1, 1940, Ordinance No. 5793 is
hereby amended to read as followss
Section 1. There is hereby created the positions of
,4ealth Officer, Chief Public Health Nurse, One Labratory_Ten,k-
nician, Four Public Health Nurses, One Part Time Venereal Disease
Clinician One Dental Clinician.
Section 2. The City Health Officer shall receive a
salary of Sixteen Hundred Dollars ($16009.00) per year; the Labratory
TechniAn shall reoei`ve a salary of Twelve Hundred Dollars ($1200.00)
per year; the Chief Public Health Nurse shall receive a salary of
Nine Hundred Dollars ($900.00) per year; four Public Health Nurses
shall receive a salary of Six Hundred Dollars (600.00) per year
each; the part time Venereal Disease Clinician shall receive the
salary of Fifteen Hundred Dollars ($1500.00) per year; the part
time Dental Clinician shall receive the salary of Six Hundred Dol-
lars ($600.00) per year.
Section 3. The Labratory Technician, the Chief Public
Health Nurse, the Public Health Nurses, the Venereal Disease Clinician
and the Dental Clinician must meet with the qualifications to be pre-
scribed by the City Health Officer and the Mayor, and shall work under
the supervision and direction of the City Health Officer.
Section 4. Those employed in the positions created
herein whose duties necessitate the operation of an automobile shall be
allowed a sum of money for travelling.expenses where their personal aat.o
mobiles are used. The sums allowed for said travelling expenses shall
be as follows: City Health Officer shall be allowed the sum of Fifty
Dollars ($50.00)per month; Chief Public Health Nurse shall be
allowed the sum of Fifty Dollars ($50.00) per month; four part time
Public Health Nurses shall be allowed the sum of Twenty -seven and
50100 Dollars ($27.50) per month each. The State of Arkansas and
the United States of America are paying the salaries of one Public

Health Nurse cooperating in the work of the four Public Health
Nurses mentioned above and are paying the salaries of two addi-
tional public health nurses whose duties will begin on and after
January 1, 1941. Said additional public health nurses whose duties
necessitate the operation of an automobile as described for the offi-

after January 1, 1941, shall be allowed the sum of Twenty -five
Dollars ($25.00) per month each, beginning with the month of
January, 1941. The sums allowed above shall include all expenses
for the operation, upkeep and depreciation of said automobiles.
SECTION 2. WHEREAS, many serious conditions exist within the
City of Little Rock requiring the services of the employees pro-
vided for herein in the protection of the public health, as
emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance is found
to be necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace,
health and safety, and the same shall be in full force and effect
from and after July 1, 1940.
