Section 1. The Zoo Department of the City of Little Rock, Ark-
ansas :is hereby created; the duties and functions heretofore per-
formed and discharged by the Zoo Department of the City Engineer's
office pursuant to the terms of Ordinance I ?umber 5556 of the City
of Little Rock and the positions of employment therein are hereby
transferred to the Zoo Department created by this ordinance.
Section 2. The Zoo Departrcient of the Lhgineerls office is
hereby abolished.
Section 3. The positions of employment in the former Zoo De-
partment of the City Engineerts office and the duties of same are
hereby re- classified and changed, where necessary, as follows:
A. The position. of Curator shall henceforth be known as that
of Director. The Director shall be the head of the Zoo
Department, discharge the duties formerly placed on the
Curator by the ordinance creatinZ his position and the
"ivil Service Co-.!mission, and receive a salary of ?150.00
per month.
B. The position of foreman shall henceforth be known as that
of Assistant Director. The Assistant Director shall be
the assistant to the Director and shall discharge the
duties formerly placed on the foreman by the ordinance
creating his position and the Civil Service Commission,
and shall receive the salary of ;;'100.00 per month.
The Assistant Curator and the Utility Yan shall henceforth
be '_mown as Curators. The Curators shall be subordinate
to the Director and the Assistant Director and shall res-
pectively discharge the duties formerly placed on the
Assistant Curator$ and on the Utility I:an by the ordinances
creatin- the positions and the Civil Service Commission,
and shall receive a salary of „:35.00 per _ month.

D. The helpers shall henceforth be known as Assistant
Curators. They shall be subordinate to the Director,
the Assistant Director, and the Curatorg they shall
discharge the duties formerly placed on helpers by the
ordinances creating the positions and by the Civil Ser-
vice Commission and shall receive the salary of ;;:75.00
per month.
E. The night watchman shall continue to be known as sight
atchman. He shall receive a salary of ;,50.00 per month.
Section 4. In t'ie event that any vacancies occur in the pos-
itions described in Section 3 of this ordinance said Vacancies
shall be filled by the Civil Service Corli,lission in the Manner pre-
scribed by law.
Section 5. 7,hereas, the efficient ad- inistration of a muni-
cipal zoo is of vital, importance to the health and safety of the
population at large, an emergency is her3by declared to exiot and
this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage and approval.
