AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE DUTIES AND SALARY OF THE SECRETARY OF
THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, ABOLISHING THE STATUS OF SENIOR CAPTAIN FOR
THE SECRETARY OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, PRESERVING THE STATUS OF
PERSONS FORMERLY HOLDING THE POSITION OF SECRETARY, DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

Section 1. The duties of the Secretary of the Fire Department
are hereby declared to be as followss
"Section 1. He shall keep a complete and permanent
record of each member of the department throughout such memberls
66AA 6tift therewith.
Section 2. He shall keep an accurate record of all
fires and fire losses.
Section 3. He shall keep suitable records of all
matters pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the
department.
Section 4. He shall prepare semi - monthly payrolls for
the entire department and present same to the Chief for his
approval and signature.
Section 5• He shall, subject to the approval of the
Chief of the Department, make requisition to the Mayor for
the purchase of all materials, supplies, repairs, etc•
necessary for the proper maintenance of the department.
Section 6. He shall keep an accurate account and
carefully file duplicate copies of requisitions, payrolls
and all other matters pertaining to the department.
Section 7. To maintain the records of the Fire
Department, to transcribe and file all correspondence of the
Fire Department and to do all the clerical work required
in the offices of the Chief of the Fire Department.
Section 8. He shall perform such other duties as the
Chief of Department may prescribe."
Section 2. The salary of the Secretary is hereby fixed at
$460.00 per month, payable as other talaries are paid by the fire

Department.
Section 3. The status of Senior Captain formerly held by
persons holding the position of Secretary of the Fire Department
is hereby abolished for the future, and the person or persons who
henceforth qualify for the position of Secretary shall receive no
increase in rank or status by virtue of holding the position of
secretary, but such person or persons shall retain the status
and rank that they held at the time they qualified for the position

Section 4. This ordinance in no wise affects, changes or
abolishes the rank or status of Senior Captain possessed by persons
who have qualified as Secretary prior to the passage of this ordin-
anoef and any person who has heretofore qualified as Secretary
and has received the rank of Senior Captain thereby shall retain
said rank of Senior Captain henceforth and shall be eligible to
continue to 6ischarge thi duties of a Senior Captain.
Section 5. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed.
Section 6. The efficient administration of the Fire Depart-
ment being vital to the public peace, health and safety, an
emergency is declared to exist, and this ordinance shall be in
full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
