6985kr- . t i ORDINANCE NO. 6985. AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING STANDING COMMITTEES OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AMENDING ORDINANCE 4422, PROVIDING FOR' THE APPOINTMENT OF TEMPORARY COMMITTEES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the types and purposes of the present standing committees of the City Council have become obsolescent and the number thereof has become cumbersome and the duties of the various committees have become overlapping with each other and administrative departmental functions, and WHEREAS, it being necessary for the efficient transaction of the business of the City of Little Hock, NOW, THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION I. That the standing committees of the �;i ty Council shall be five (5) in number, and shall be designated as follows: 1. Fire and Police Committee 2. Public Works Committee 3. Health and Sanitation Committee 4. Parks and Recreation Committee 5. Finance Committee SECTION II. The standing committees shall be appointed by the mayor or presiding officer of the Council, and each committee shall consist of four (4) members. The first �d member of each 1 committee shall be the chairman thereof, and two members of any { one corrnnittee shall constitute a quorum. SECTION III. Each of said committees shall study, consider, examine and investigate and promptly report to the City Council upon all matters that may be referred to it by the City Council. SECTION IV. The members of the City Council by a majority vote shall designate the committee to which any matter before it shall be sent, and in case of a tie vote upon such a question, the mayor as presiding officer of the Council shall designate the appropriate committee. -• • w SECTION V. The mayor, as presiding officer,of the City Council may from time to time appoint special committees for the purpose of studying, investigating and preparing reports to be made to the City Council upon unusual, special or unique matters which may come before the City Council. Such committees so appointed shall be r temporary and uponaitt j �i' f in rep I' b to the ©uiaai l upon the questions or matters referred to them shall be automatically dissolved. The powers and duties of these special committees shall be designated by the Council at the time of their appointment. SECTION VI. Ordinance No. 4422 is hereby amended to conform to this ordinance, and all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
