AN ORDINAL ?CE RFGULATING CREIYATORIFS j!uITHIN THE CITY OF
LITTLE ROCK: FIXING THE SPECIFICATIONS THEREFOR: PROVIDING
FOR THE INSPECTION THEREOF: AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK,
ARKANSAS.
SECTION 1. From and after the passage and approval of
this Ordinance, crematories may be constructed and operated
within the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, subject to the pro-
visions of this Ordinance.
SECTION 2. Subject to the direction and control of the
City Council, the construction and operation of crematories
shall be under the supervision and direction of tlie City Health
Officer of the City of Little Rock.
SECTION 3. The City Health Officer shall inspect all cre-
matories within the city.
SECTION 4. Before a permit is issued for the construction
of a crematory, the plans and specifications shall be approved
by the City Health Officer. Said plans shall comply with the
following minimum specifications and regulations:
(a) Smoke stack to be at least 10 feet higher than
any building; in the same block, provided it
shall be not less than 40 feet in height,andd
300 square inches in area per retort.
(b) Combustion chamber temperature to be at least
1400 degrees Fahrenheit before cremation is
started.
(c) The area of the combustion chamber shall be
at least 300 square inches per retort.
(d) The stack temperature shall be at least
900 degrees Fahrenheit before cremation is
begun.
(e) Adequate thermometers shall be provided so
that the temperature of the stack and combus-
tion chamber can be recorded at all times.
(f) That a record shall be kept of all cremations
showing the stack and combustion chamber toVerature be-
fore and during such cremation.
SECTION 5. All Ordinances and parts of Ordinances in con-
flict herewith are hereby repealed.
