8258i I I ORDINANCE N0. 8258 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 7 OF ORDINANCE NO. 6578, PROVIDING FOR EQUAL PAY AND BENEFITS FOR 71E NEGRO POL- ICE IN THE LITTLE ROCK POLICE DEPARTMENT, DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROOK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. Section 7 of Ordinance No. 6578 is hereby re- pealed. SECTION 2. All persons doing actual police work in the Police Department of the City of Little Rock shall be entitled to all of the rights, benefits, and privileges of the police pension fund of the City of Little Rock, and these rights, bene- fits and privileges shall accrue to all individuals from the date of their actual entry upon such job. Any statement or waiver of any such rights heretofore or hereafter made by any such indivi- dual is hereby declared to be invalid and of no force and effect whatsoever. SECTION 3. All persons employed in the Police Department and performing the same type of work, of the same rank, shall be paid alike, and no differential shall be made therein because of race, color or creed. SECTION 4. From and after the effective date of this ordin- ance the Negro police employed by the City of Little Rock shall be paid at the same rate as are other policemen-t of the Little Rock Police Department of equal rank, performing duties of a like character and nature. SECTION 5. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in con- flict herewith are hereby repealed. Unless the provisions of this ordinance are put into effect immediately, the peace, health, and safety of the citizens of Little Rock will be adversely affect- ed; therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
