ORDINANCE
AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE T "tANS,1AISSION, SALE, ND /O t
DISTRIBUTION OF GAS TO DOMESTIC AND COMMERCIAL CONSU-
MERS WITHIN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK TO BE A PRIVILEGE;
FIXING 'HIE LICENSE THEREFOR; AND FO_t OTHER PURPOSES
BE IT ORDAINED BY THU CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LIT-
TLE ROCK, ARKANSAS
SECTION 1. The business of transmitting, sale, and /or
distribution of Jas to Domestic and /or Commercial consumers
within the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, is declared to be a
privilege and it is further declared that all persons, firms,
and /or corporations so'engaged shall pay an annual license tax
for the privilege of engaging; in such business in the City of
Little flock, Arkansas.
Sij-'CTION 2. There is hereby levied as an annual license
tax for said privilege the sum of 114tdnty -five Thousand Dollars,
(�ZZ ,000.00) which shall be due and payable annually, beginning
in 1939.
SECTION 3. Any person, firm, and /or corporation engaging
in or carrying on the busines" 'herein specified without paying
said tax within Thirty (30) days after notice by the City Col-
lector that said tax is due shall. be deemed guilty of a TnJ.sde-
meanor and upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in any sum
riot less than Five Hundred Dollars 0500.00) nor more than One
Thousand Dollars ($11000.00); and each day that such operation
continues after payment is due and remains unpaid, shall consti-
tute a separate offense.
SECTION 4. In view of the depleted condition of the fi-
nances of the City necessitating curtailment in police, fire, and
health protection, and the fact that the business of transmitting
and selling Gas is now being, engaged in without the payment of a
reasonable tax for the privilege, an emergency is hereby declared
to exist and this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval.
