9021ORDINANCE NO. 9021 AN ORDINANCE CREATING A CITY TRUCK ROUTE EAST OF BROADWAY IN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, PRESCRIBING THE ROUTE THEREOF; DESIGNATING THE TRUCK ROUTE THROUGH THE CITY FOR TRAFFIC ON HIMways 67 -70; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the Arkansas State Highway Department.:- haz_de clined to place truck -route signs and refused to maintain the streets within the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, East of Broadway, that are now designated by the Council of the City of Little Rock for the es- tablishment of a truck route to be used as U. S. Highway No. 65 Truck Route through the City of Little Rock, and WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock does not have sufficient funds with which to maintain a special truck route trough the wholesale, manufacturing, industrial and business areas East of Broadway to be used by trucks as an alternate to U. S. Highway No. 65; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, A_RTKANSAS ; SECTION 1. That all trucks of over 17 ton capacity, entering the City limits of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, which are travelling on U. S. Hi[ .away ivo. 65, will hereafter remain on the streets designated as U. S. Highway 1o. 65, namely, Confederate Boulevard, Roosevelt Road and Broadway, and are hereby prohibited to leave this designated higi-nway except as prescribed in this ordi- nance, and furthermore, all trucks, of over 12 ton capacity, enter- ing or leaving the City (or whose origin or destination of shipment of merchandise is located East of Broadway in the City of Little Rock) on any Federal, State or County HiFnway, will not proceed East of Broadway except on the streets designated by this Ordinance as City Truck -Route Streets. SECTION 2. That the following streets are hereby designa- ted as the East- ITlest City Truck Route Streets East of Broadway, to -wit; A. Markham from Broadway to Rector Street. B. Second Street from John Street to Broadway. East Third Street from John Street to Parker Street. 3, Ee jAt7. Street from Rector Street to Parker Street. Y Y 2 E. East Ninth Street from Hanger Street to Bond Street. F. East Fifteenth Street from Geyer Street to Fletcher Street. G. East Seventeenth Street from Fletcher Street to Bond Street. SECTION 3. The following streets are Hereby designated as *� the North -South Truck -Route Streets East of Broadway; A. Rector Street frc.1 iiarkham Street to East Si-7,th Street. B. John Street from East Second Street to East Third Street. C. Parker Street from East Third Street to East Eighth Street. D. Bond Street from East Eighth Street to Roosevelt Road. E. Fletcher Street from East Fifteenth Street to East Seventeenth Street. SECTION 4. Daring the hours of from 6 :00 A. Pi. to 6 :00 P. ., only so as to disperse the traffic, trucks shall be and are hereby peraitted to use Ninth Street from Broadway to Hanger Street and are hereb,; x)ermitted to use Rector Street from East Sixth Street to East Ninth Street. The use of these streets by trucks of over 1� ton capacity is H r ereby prohibited between the hours of 6 :00 P. T. and 6:00 A. M. SECTION 7. Trucks of over 11 ton capacity are hereby pro- 2 hibited from using any street East of Broadway, except those streets designated by this ordinance, and they shall enter said truck route from the point nearest their origin or shall leave said truck route at a point nearest t'_leir destination. SECTION 6. That all trucks entering or,leaving the City on Highways 67 -70 small be routed though the City over designated State Highways, Viz: Broadway between the Arkansas giver and Roose- velt Road; and Roosevelt Road between Broadway and the Southwestern City Limits. SECTION 7. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in con- flict herewith are hereby repealed, and unless the provisions of this ordinance are put into effect immediately, the public peace, health and safety of the citizens of Little Rock will be adversely affected; therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordi- nance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
