AN ORDINANCE MAKING IT UNLAWFUL FOR LICENSED OR UNLICENSED
DOGS TO GO ON PUBLIC SCHOOL GROUNDS; PROVIDING FOR THE
IMPOUNDING OF ANY DOG FOUND ON PUBLIC SCHOOL GROUNDS; AND
PRESCRIBING PENALTIES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE
ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. From and after the passage of this ordinance the
presence of licensed or unlicensed dogs on public school grounds shall
be unlawful, and it shall be unlawful for the owner or owners of licensed
or unlicensed dogs knowingly to permit them to go upon public school
grounds.
SECTION 2. The City Pound Master or any City Policeman is hereby
authorized to seize any dog found upon public school grounds in violation
of this ordinance and all dogs so seised shall be detained in the City
Pound for five days "in order that notice be given by registered mail,
return receipt requested, to last known address of the owner of any dog
seized by the City Pound Master where it is possible to ascertain the
owner's identity. Any dog so detained may be recovered upon payment to
the City Collector of a fee of $5.00 plus $2.00 for each day the dog is
detained. If any dog so detained is not recovered by the owner within a
period of five days, it shall be disposed of by the Pound Master.
SECTION 3. The City Pound Master shall give priority to com-
plaints received from school officials or others concerning the presence
of any dog or dogs, licensed or unlicensed, on school property.
SECTION k. Any person or persons violating any provision of
this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction
in the Little Rock Municipal Court shall be fined in any sum not less than
F_. - #10.00 nor more than $25.00 for each offense.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall not repeal any existing ordinance,
its purpose being to prevent interference with school work and danger to
school children which is hereby found to be a nuisance and a detriment.
