AN ORDINANCE COMMENDING MRS. BERNIE BABCOCK FOR HER
OUTSTANDING MERITORIOUS SERVICES AS FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR
OF THE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY AND ANTIQUITIES IN
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS; APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF ONE
HUNDRED NINETY ONE AND 52/100 DOLLARS ($191.52) FOR
THE PURCHASE OF A PORTRAIT OF MRS. BERNIE BABCOCK;
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Bernie Babcock founded the Museum of Natural
History and Antiquities thirty years ago and
WHEREAS, she surpassed many obstacles and overcame countless
set backs in,developing this Museum for the City of Little Rock,
and
WHEREAS, through her untiring efforts the Old Tower Building
in MacArthur Park which was the birth place of General Douglas
MacArthur was restored and renovated for use as a Museum, and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Bernie Babcock has retired from the position
of Director of the Museum of Natural History and Antiquities on
the 31st day of August, 1953, and
WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock desires to establish a
permanent memorial to Mrs. Bernie Babcock for the aforesaid out-
standing service;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. Mrs. Bernie Babcock is hereby commended for her
outstanding meritorious services as founder and director of the
Museum of Natural History and Antiquities in Little Rock, Arkansas.
SECTION 2. There is hereby appropriated the sum of One
Hundred Ninety -One and 52/100 Dollars ($191.52) for the purchase
of a portrait of Mrs. Bernie Babcock.
SECTION 3. The City Manager and Director of Finance are
hereby authorized and directed to execute the necessary warrant
or warrants for payment of the moneys appropriated in Section 2
hereinabove.

SECTION 4. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in con-
flict herewith are hereby repealed and this ordinance shall be
in full force and effect from and after its,,-,passage and approval.
