AN ORDINANCE VACATING AND TRANSFERRING TO OTHER PUBLIC
PURPOSES THAT PORTION OF NORTH GAINES STREET LOCATED BETWEEN
THE NORTH LINE OF WEST MARKHAM STREET NORTHWARD TO THE SOUTH
LINE OF LA HARPE BOULEVARD LOCATED BETWEEN BLOCK 122, ORIGINAL
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK ON THE EAST AND BLOCK 136, ORIGINAL CITY
OF LITTLE ROCK ON THE WEST; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock desires to construct a Police
and Courts Building on property owned by the said City in Block 122
and Block 136, Original City of Little Rock, and,
WHEREAS, the said building which is proposed is so large as to
require that property located in both of the said blocks be used as
a site for its construction, and,
WHEREAS, in order to construct a building of the size proposed
it will be necessary to utilize that portion of North Gaines Street
located between said Blocks 122 and 136, Original City of Little
Rock as a part of the site for the proposed construction, and,
WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock is the owner in fee of all
property abutting that portion of the said street which the City
proposes to close and vacate, and,
WHEREAS, the best interest of the Citizenry of the City of
Little Rock will be served by the vacating and abandoning of that
portion of North Gaines Street above identified and by transferring
said portion of the street to use by the City as a part of the site
for the construction of a proposed Police and Courts Building,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. It is hereby determined that a public hearing on
the closing of the portion of North Gaines Street hereinafter
more particularly identified has been had and that no objection
has been made to the said closing and vacating of the said portion
of the said street; that the City of Little Rock, Arkansas is the

owner in fee of all property abutting the said portion of North
Gaines Street hereinafter identified which the City proposes to
close. That there are certain utility easements in the said
street but that the owners thereof have agreed to the closing of
the portion of the said street hereinafter identified.
SECTION 2. It is hereby ascertained and declared that the
portion of North Gaines Street located between the North line of
West Markham Street northward to the South line of La Harpe
Boulevard and located between Block 122, Original City of Little
Rock on the east and Block 136, Original City of Little Rock on
the West is no longer needed for corporate purposes as a public
street and should be vacated as such and that the said portion of
North Gaines street so vacated should be transferred to, and designated
for, use as a site for the erection of a Police and Courts Building.
SECTION 3. The City of Little Rock hereby vacates and abandons
for use as a public street that portion of North Gaines Street
described in Section 2 hereinabove and relinquishes all of its rights
and the rights of its inhabitants and the public generally to
continue to use the same as a public street. The said portion of North
Gaines Street hereinabove described is hereby transferred to, and
designated for use as, a site for a proposed Police and Courts
Building.
SECTION 4. A copy of this ordinance, duly certified by the City
Clerk, shall be filed in the office of the Recorder of Pulaski County,
Arkansas, and recorded in the Deed Record of said County.
SECTION 5. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed and this ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage and approval.
