13163I 2 RESOLUTION NO. 13,163 3 A RESOLUTION TO AFFIRM THAT THE COMMITMENT OF THE 4 CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, TO BUILD A NEW FACILITY s ON THE LOCATION OF THE ADULT LEISURE CENTER; AND FOR 6 OTHER PURPOSES. 8 WHEREAS, during the early morning hours on October 18, 2009, a fire destroyed the City's 9 Adult Leisure Center; and, 10 WHEREAS, this facility served as the location of numerous events and activities, and pro- 11 vided outstanding programs for the citizens, especially the senior citizens, of the City; and, 12 WHEREAS, the City is currently in negotiations for the final amount of insurance to be re- 13 ceived because of the destruction of this facility; and, 14 WHEREAS, the City desires to conduct sessions with local residents and neighborhood as- 15 sociations, and the Little Rock Parks Commission, as a means to develop a new design and uses 16 for a structure at this location; and, 17 WHEREAS, this design work cannot be completed, nor construction begin, until sometime 18 in fiscal year 2011; 19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF 20 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: 21 Section 1. The City Manager is directed to create a special projects fund from insurance pro - 22 ceeds for the construction of a replacement facility at the site of the former Adult Leisure Center, 23 and to identify such monies to be included within this fund as are necessary to assure payment 24 for the design and construction of the new facility. 25 Section 2. The City Manager is to assure that prior to the initiation of any design for the new 26 facility, that discussions with the neighborhood, and with the Little Rock Parks Commission, are 27 held to assure that the new design fulfills the expectations of the community for this facility. 28 Section 3. Severability. Section 4. Repealer. All ordinances, resolutions, bylaws, and other matters inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such inconsistency.
