12991I 2 RESOLUTION NO. 12,991 3 A RESOLUTION TO STRIVE FOR MORE INCLUSIVE MEMBERSHIP 4 ON CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS TO ACHIEVE TO THE EX- 5 TENT POSSIBLE THE RANGE OF DIVERSITY OF THE CITIZENS OF 6 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. s WHEREAS, more inclusiveness in the advisory function of City government has been an 9 underachieved priority of the Little Rock Board of Directors for reasons often outside the control to of the Board ; and the Board desires a more concerted effort to increase to the extent possible the 11 range of diversity of the citizens of our City on boards and commissions; 12 WHEREAS, the Board wishes to establish as its goal more diverse and inclusive 13 representation on City boards and commissions. 14 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF 15 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS. 16 Section 1. In order to achieve the stated goal of diversity and inclusiveness on City boards 17 and commissions, the Board directs the City Manager and the Racial & Cultural Diversity 18 Commission to implement efforts to increase the pool of minority applicants, especially African- 19 Americans and Latinos, women applicants, and other underrepresented persons, by the 20 development and utilization of appropriate methods for the recruitment of such persons. 21 Section 2. The formal statement of this goal shall be as follows, and shall be contained on all 22 applications for City board and commission positions: 23 Inclusiveness on Boards and Commissions. 24 It is the goal of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, that the Mayor, with 25 confirmation by the City Board of Directors, shall make diligent efforts to 26 appoint citizens of Little Rock to City Boards and Commissions so these 27 bodies meet the goal of inclusiveness by reflecting the diversity of our City, 28 recognizing that this goal may be impacted by Board and Commission 29 positions that are designated by professions, organizations or by ward 30 representation. [PAGE 1 OF 21 I Section 3. Severability. In the event any title, section, paragraph, item, sentence, clause, 2 phrase, or word of this resolution is declared or adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional, such 3 declaration or adjudication shall not affect the remaining portions of the resolution which shall 4 remain in full force and effect as if the portion so declared or adjudged invalid or 5 unconstitutional were not originally a part of the ordinance. 6 Section 4. Repealer.
