18754I ORDINANCE NO. 18,754 2 3 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND LITTLE ROCK, ARK., REV. CODE § 2 -321 4 (1988), TO PERMIT ALL MEMBERS OF THE RACIAL AND CULTURAL s DIVERSITY COMMISSION TO BE SELECTED AT- LARGE; AND FOR 6 OTHER PURPOSES. 7 8 WHEREAS, as a result of the Future- Little Rock process the City created a Racial & 9 Cultural Diversity Commission to promote equal opportunity and the full exercise of civil 10 rights by all citizens in the community, as well as to dismantle racism and reduce 11 prejudice, and 12 WHEREAS, the Commission has determined that to facilitate the selection of the 13 nineteen (19) members of the Commission it would be better to permit all members to be 14 selected at -large as long as each ward of the City is represented on the Commission by at 15 least one member, and 16 WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, believes that 17 this suggestion should be accepted, 18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF 19 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: 20 Section 1. Little Rock, Ark., Rev. Code § 2 -321 is hereby amended to read as 21 follows: 22 The commission shall consist of nineteen (19) members selected at -large and 23 shall reflect to the extent possible the diversity of the community. Members of the commission shall be 2 selected by majority vote of the board of directors. 3 Section 2. Severability. In the event any title, section, paragraph, item, 4 sentence, clause, phrase, or word of this ordinance is declared or adjudged to be invalid or 5 unconstitutional, such declaration or adjudication shall not affect the remaining portions 6 of the ordinance which shall remain in full force and effect as if the portion so declared or 7 adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional was not originally a part of the ordinance. 8 Section 3. Repeater.
