182160 24i 4 I ORDINANCE NO. 18,216 2 3 AN ORDINANCE TO AUTHORIZE A CONTRACT 4 WITH HURST JAWS OF LIFE TO REPAIR SUCH 5 UNITS FOR THE LITTLE ROCK FIRE 6 DEPARTMENT; TO WAIVE COMPETITIVE BIDS; TO 7 DECLARE AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER a PURPOSES. 9 to WHEREAS, the City has previously purchased "jaws of life" machines for the I Little Rock Fire Department and these machines are now in need of repair, and 12 WHEREAS, Hurst Jaws of Life of Hamburg, Arkansas, is the only authorized 13 representative to repair the two units that currently need such repair, and the amount 14 for such repair exceeds the $10,000 threshold for competitive bids, and 15 WHEREAS, such bids are not feasible and practical under the circumstances, 16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF 17 DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: Is Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to enter into an agreement with 19 Hurst Jaws of Life of Hamburg, Arkansas, in an amount not to exceed $15,868.62 to 20 repair two "jaws of life" machines for the Little Rock Fire Department. 21 Section 2. Because Hurst Jaws of Life is the only authorized representative in 22 Arkansas to provide this repair service for the City's machines, the Board finds that it 23 is impractical and unfeasible to submit this matter for competitive bids. 24 Section 3. Funds for this contract are available in Account 25 No.—Loo- 340-4 200-A 200-40 20 26 Section 4. Emergency. The ability to use "jaws of life" machines by the City 27 emergency services is essential to protect the public health, safety and welfare. An 28 emergency is, therefore, declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and 29 effect from and after the date of its passage.
