ORDINANCE NO. 17.777
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8 OF THE LITTLE ROCK CODE OF
ORDINANCES, PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION BY REFERENCE OF THE 1997
ARKANSAS MECHANICAL CODE WITH ARKANSAS AMENDMENTS AND 1997
REVISIONS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, Little Rock, Ark. Rev. Code 8 -2(1) and 8- 474(C) adopts by reference the
1997 edition of the "Arkansas Mechanical Code" with Arkansas Amendments and 1997
Revisions and Appendices "A" and "C" published by the Southern Building Code Congress
International, Birmingham, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, new amended 1997 editions of these Codes have been published by the
Southern Building Code Congress International and adopted by the State of Arkansas as the
Arkansas Mechanical Code, 1997 Edition; and
WHEREAS the City has complied with Ark. Code Ann. 14 -55 -207 (1987) by publishing
a notice of intent to adopt these technical codes by reference in a paper of general circulation
within the municipality and three copies of codes have been available for inspection in the City
Clerk's office by the public prior to their adoption; and
WHEREAS, this ordinance amendment is necessary to update the City Code and
authorize the use of the 1997 edition with the city.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:

SECTION 1. 8 -2 of Little Rock, Ark. Rev. Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
(1) The "1997 Arkansas Mechanical Code" with Arkansas Amendments" and
1997 Revisions with Appendices "A" and "C ".
SECTION 2. 8 -474 of Little Rock, Ark. Rev. Code is hereby amended to read as
follows:
(C) The "1997 Arkansas Mechanical Code with Arkansas Amendments and
1997 Revisions and Appendices "A" and "C" is adopted by reference.
(D) In the event of a conflict between the publications in subsections (A), (B)
or (C), the more stringent provisions shall govern.
(E) Notwithstanding the provisions of Sections (A), (B), and (C) above, the
City, consistent with other provision of state law, shall set the job
qualification for its employees. No job qualifications contained in the
1997 Arkansas Mechanical Code are adopted in any form whatsoever.
SECTION 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this provision are
hereby repealed to the extent of the conflict.
