16061M M M 1 2 3 _ 4 O 5 0 6 7 4 >110 '011 '012 c 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 244 ORDINANCE NO. 16,061 AN ORDINANCE CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION IN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, ON THE QUESTION OF LEVYING A ONE -HALF OF ONE PERCENT (0.5 %) SALES AND C014PENSATING USE TAX FOR GENERAL OPERATIONS OF THE CITY; ESTABLISHING A DATE FOR THE ELECTION; PRESCRIBING OTHER MATTERS PERTAINING THERETO; AND DECLARING AN WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock, Arkansas (the "City°) is a city of the first class; and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the City has determined that it is necessary to increase the revenues of the City in order to adequately address and provide necessary services for the citizens including, but not limited to, increased police and fire protection, meeting capital needs and renovation of the Central Library, the ability if desired to construct a new museum, enhanced efforts to revitalize neighborhoods and to rehabilitate residential rental properties, and to adequately provide all other municipal services; and WHEREAS, a one -half of one - percent (1/2 %) municipal sales and use tax may be levied, if approved by a majority of the voters voting on the issue, in accordance with 1975 Ark. Acts 990, as amended. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. Pursuant to the provisions of Act 990 of 1975, as amended, there be, and thereby here is called, a special election to be held on October 8, 1991, at which election there shall be submitted to the electors of the City the question of whether to approve the levy of a sales and use tax. SECTION 2. That the levy of the sales and use tax shall not be effective until after the special election called for in Section 1 above has been held and the levy of the tax has been approved by a majority of the electors voting on the question. SECTION 3. That the question of levying the tax shall be placed on the ballot for the election in substantially the following form: Jn 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 FOR option of a one -half of one percent (0.5 %) local sales and use tax within the City of LittleRock ........... ............................... ❑ AGAINST adoption of a one half of one percent (0.5 %) local sales and use tax within the City of LittleRock .......... ............................... ❑ [This concludes the ballot on this issue]. SECTION 4. The ordinance levying the sales and use tax shall not be effective until after the election is held and the proclamation of the results has been issued by the Mayor and published one (1) time in a newspaper of general circulation in the City. SECTION 5. As soon as practicable, and not less than ten (10) days after voter approval of the levy of the sales and use tax called for in this ordinance, and the proclamation has been issued and published, the City Clerk shall send to the Director of the Department of Finance and Administration a map clearly showing the boundaries of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas.
