16498Q!o$ ,i 11 ORDINANCE NO. 16,498 571 2 3 AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH SALARIES rA \.' FOR THE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE 5 BOARD OF DIRECTORS; AND OR OTHER ` 6 PURPOSES. 7 WHEREAS, Amendment 56 to the Arkansas Constitution, 8 adopted by a vote of the people in 1976, provides that salaries 9 for municipal officers and officials shall be fixed by the 10 governing body of the municipality; and WHEREAS, Act 1012 of 1991, codified as Ark. Code Ann. 5 11 14- 47- 114(a) (Michie Supp. 1991), provides that "any city with 12 the city manager form of government may, by ordinance, provide 13 for the compensation of board members.... "; and 14 WHEREAS, the Governance Task Force of Future - Little Rock 15 recommended that some compensation be paid to the Mayor and 16 members of the Board of Directors so that more people could afford the opportunity to serve in this capacity; and 17 WHEREAS, the Board of Directors agrees with this view and 18 further believes that establishing salaries now is important to 19 assure that the persons running for the four ward positions on 20 the Board of Directors to be elected in November, 1993, be aware of the compensation to be paid for the time commitments that are 21 demanded of a member of the Board; and 22 WHEREAS, this information is further necessary to be able 23 to provide for only compensation for the Board of Directors as a 24 part of the 1994 budget process. 25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS 26 OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. The Mayor and members of the Board of Directors 27 shall be compensated as follows: 28 (a) The Mayor shall receive an annual salary of $24,000 to 29 be paid at the same time and in the same manner as all city 30 employees are paid beginning in fiscal year 1994; (b) Each member of the Board of Directors, other than 31 Mayor, shall receive an annual salary of $12,000 to be paid at 32 the same time and in the same manner as all city employees are 33 paid beginning in fiscal year 1994. 34 SECTION 2. Severability.
