AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $100,000

FROM THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND

FOR PURPOSES OF FUNDING THE LITTLE

ROCK ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION

COMMISSION TO BE USED PURSUANT TO

ITS STATUTORY AUTHORITY IN ARKANSAS

1987); TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY;

AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

14 WHEREAS, the 1992 presidential campaign and the election of
Bill Clinton as President of the United States has projected the
15
15 City of Little Rock into the world spotlight; and
17 WHEREAS, the City is experiencing a surge in public
interest and awareness of cultural and historical affairs of the
18
City due to the campaign and other positive current events; and
19
WHEREAS, such interest has resulted in increased tourism
20
and convention activity within the City; and
21
WIiII2EAS, these events have provided a unique opportunity to
22
23 enhance the public image of Little Rock on the world stage; and
AREAS, the establishment of displays and exhibits in
24
local museums is deemed to be an effective project to capitalize
25
on increased tourism and convention business; and
26
WHEREAS, the Little Rock Advertising and Promotion
27
28 Commission is the appropriate City agency to receive City funds
to invest in the construction and operation of exhibits and
29
30 displays in support of tourism and promotion.
31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
32 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS.
SECTION 1. The sum of $100,000 is hereby appropriated from
33
34 the Economic Development Fund to be used by the Little Rock
35 Advertising and Promotion Commission to establish displays and
li 36 exhibits at museums in the City.

SECTION 2. • GENCY. The Board of Directors has declaW
that the promotion of economic development, tourism, convention
activity and revenues from visitors of local museums is a matter
essential for the public health, safety and welfare of the
citizens. It is important for the City to capitalize on this
unique opportunity to coordinate with State agencies and private
business to foster tourism and public awareness of cultural
events in the City. Therefore, an emergency is declared to exist
and this ordinance shall be effective from the date of its
passage.
