AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 26 -12 THROUGH 26 -17
OF ARTICLE II OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY
OF LITTLE ROCK: TO RENAME THE MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND
HISTORY AS "THE ARKANSAS MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & HISTORY ";
PROVIDING FOR ITS INCORPORATION AND MANAGEMENT;
AUTHORIZING ITS BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO PLAN, DESIGN,
CONSTRUCT, AND EQUIP A NEW MUSEUM BUILDING TO BE
LOCATED ON THE ARKANSAS RIVER AT THE FOOT OF ROCK STREET.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. Sections 26 -12 through 26 -17 of Article II of
the Code of Ordinances of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas are
hereby amended to read as follows:

Section 26 -12. The Arkansas Museum of Science & History

Section 26 -13. Board of Trustee - Appointment; Terms.
The management and control of the Arkansas Museum of
Science & History and its historical and scientific program is
hereby vested in the Board of Trustees which shall have not less
than nine (9) nor more than thirty (30) members, to be appointed
by the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock. Neither
the Articles of Incorporation nor By -Laws nor any policy of the
Board of Trustees of the Arkansas Museum of Science & History,
Inc., or its Trustees shall be inconsistent with this Code, the
Ordinances of the City of Little Rock and the Statutes of the
State of Arkansas. After the initial election of the Trustees to
said Board, the Trustees shall thereafter be elected to serve for
a term of six (6) years. No Trustee may serve more than two (2)

consecutive terms. The Mayor of the City of Little Rock shall
serve as ex officio member of the Board of Trustees. The Board
of Trustees from time to time with the consent and approval of
the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock may elect
honorary life members as it deems expedient.
Section 26 -14. Annual Report.
The said Trustees shall serve without pay or commission
in any form. The Board of Trustees shall bi- annually elect from
its membership to serve as its managing officers a Chairman, a
Vice Chairman, a President, a Secretary and a Treasurer and such
other officers as the members of the Board of Trustees may deem
necessary. The Board of Trustees shall render an annual report
to the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock.
Section 26 -15. Powers and Duties.
The Board of Trustees of the Arkansas Museum of Science S
History, Inc., is hereby granted the necessary authority to
proceed forthwith to plan, design and have constructed and
equipped a new Museum building and such additional improvements
as shall be necessary or convenient to finance and complete the
same, to be located along the Arkansas River at the foot of Rock
Street in the City of Little Rock, subject to the zoning and
planning codes of the City, and to continue to operate the
present Museum located in the Old Arsenal Building in MacArthur
Park or to recommend to the City of Little Rock alternate uses
therefor and to use and occupy such additional ground or
properties as may be necessary or convenient to accommodate the
activities of the Arkansas Museum of Science 6 History, Inc. The
City of Little Rock hereby expressly exempts itself from any and
all liability and expense which might arise by virtue of the
construction and equipping of facilities as above described, it
being expressly understood that said construction and equipping
are to be completed without any cost to the City of Little Rock;
provided, nothing in this Article is intended or nor shall it be
construed so as to relieve the City of its previous commitment
for capital funds and operating funds as from year to year the

governmental body of the City of Little Rock may deem by
Ordinance appropriate.
Section 26 -16. Same - Solicitation of Funds.
Provisions of this Article are not intended nor shall
they be so construed as to restrict or in any wise limit the
authority of the Board of Trustees to accept, solicit, invest and
expend funds separate and apart from its funds provided pursuant
to the budget of the City of Little Rock.
Section 26 -17. Same - Location of the Arkansas Museum of
Science & History, Inc.; Meetings of the Board.
The Arkansas Museum of Science & History shall be
initially located in the Old Arsenal Building located in
MacArthur Park in the City of Little Rock and all meetings of the
Board of Trustees of The Arkansas Museum of Science & History,
Inc., shall be held in said building unless a different place of
meeting is designated in the notice therefor. At such time as a
new Arkansas Museum of Science & History building is constructed
and completed along the Arkansas River at the foot of Rock
Street, the main office of the Arkansas Museum of Science &
History may be located in said new building thereafter.
