83281 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 RESOLUTION NO. 8,328 A RESOLUTION CALLING AN ELECTION TO CERTIFY THAT THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MAY, PURSUANT TO ARKANSAS STATUTES AND AMENDMENT 59 OF THE ARKANSAS CONSTITUTION, SET A MILLAGE RATE OF UP TO ONE MILL FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, POLICE PENSION RELIEF FUND; SETTING A DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the citizens approved Initiated Ordinance No. 6174 by majority vote held April 1, 1941, and WHEREAS, this ordinance established that the City could levy up to one mill on personal and real property assessments for the purpose of funding a police pension and relief fund for the benefit of retired policemen, widows and the minor children of deceased policemen, and WHEREAS, the actual millage levied on any annual basis is to be determined by the City Board of Directors upon a report by the Board of Trustees of the Little Rock, Arkansas, Police Pension & Relief Fund, as to the amount of money that "will be required to pay pensions to retired policemen, and pensions to widows and minor children of deceased policemen and widows and minor children of deceased retired policemen, for the following year," and WHEREAS, the annual levy has been limited to six - tenths (.6) of a mill by operation of Amendment 59, and WHEREAS, Pulaski County has equalized its personal and real property tax assessments and, therefore, can now raise its personal property tax assessments, and WHEREAS, there is a question as to whether this can be done by Board action alone, or whether it requires a separate election, and WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the Little Rock, Arkansas, Police Pension and Relief Fund has asked this Board to call an election, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1.
