RESOLUTION NO. 7,228
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION
OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY
OF LITTLE ROCK TO NATHANIEL GRIFFIN FOR
HIS SERVICE AS DIRECTOR OF COMPREHENSIVE
PLANNING FOR THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK,
ARKANSAS.
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Griffin has devoted seven years of
his career in service to the City of Little Rock as Director
of the Office of Comprehensive Planning; and
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Griffin developed a new Zoning
Ordinance replacing documents dating back to 1937; and
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Griffin encouraged the development
of the City's Master Use Land Plan which led to adoption of
the Suburban Land Plan; and
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Griffin researched and developed
the City's subdivision and land development regulations;
and
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Griffin supported the approval of
the new Zoning Ordinance which controls the use of all land
in the City and prohibits incompatible land use; and
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Griffin launched dynamic annexation
efforts leading to the addition of more than 20,000 people
and 35 square miles to the City of Little Rock between 1977
and 1983; and
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Griffin was instrumental in the
creation of the Downtown Plan, the purpose of which was to
upgrade the environment of the downtown area including
restoration of historical buildings and the development of
streetscapes; and
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Griffin initiated the writing and
distribution of the annual URBAN DEVELOPMENT REPORT which
contains a summary of development patterns in Little Rock
based upon building permit data; and

WHEREAS, Nathaniel Griffin developed and encouraged the
adoption of a Floodplain Management Strategy which helps
the City to regulate development in the floodplain and to
acquire flood prone property; and
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Griffin's service to the City will
be remembered for his love of excellence, his devotion to
fair play, his loyalty to his colleagues, and his respect
for the City of Little Rock.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LITTLE ROCK
PLANNING COMMISSION.
SECTION 1. The Little Rock Board of Directors, on
behalf of the citizens of Little Rock, recognizes the
dedicated service of Nathaniel Griffin as Director of the
Department of Comprehensive Planning and the members of the
Board express their appreciation to him for his efforts
toward improving the quality of life for the citizens of the
City of Little Rock.
SECTION 2. The Little Rock Board of Directors does
hereby remind Nathaniel Griffin of the respect in which he
is held by the individual members of the Little Rock
Board of Directors and the citizens of Little Rock.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its adoption.
