A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE HOUSE, WALLACE,
NELSON & JEWELL LAW FIRM AND THE LITTLE ROCK
CITY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE.
WHEREAS, a class action employment discrimination lawsuit
was filed on behalf of non - uniformed employees of the City of
Little Rock and the Board of Directors in 1980; and
WHEREAS, the Eighth Circuit United States Court of Appeals
on March 31, 1986 upheld United States District Judge Henry
Woods' 1985 decision to decertify the class action lawsuit
against the City of Little Rock; and
WHEREAS, the Court of Appeals also upheld Judge Woods'
dismissal of six individual lawsuits against the City by certain
named employees; and
WHEREAS, the Court of Appeals affirmed Judge Woods' opinion
that the City of Little Rock was not engaging in intentional
employment discrimination as alleged by the Plaintiffs; and
WHEREAS, the law firm of House, Wallace, Nelson and Jewell
under the capable leadership of Philip K. Lyon, in cooperation
with the Little Rock City Attorney's Office represented the
interests of the City and the Board of Directors in a nigniy
professional and competent manner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. The Little Rock Board of Directors hereby
commends the law firm of House, Wallace, Nelson & Jewell and the
