RESOLUTION NO. 7,667 399
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, SUPPORTING THE
LIBRARY MILLAGE TO BE VOTED ON AT THE GENERAL
ELECTION TO BE HELD NOVEMBER 4, 1986.
WHEREAS, public libraries are the institutions with the
responsibility to provide lifelong learning opportunities; and
WHEREAS, public libraries must provide books periodicals,
media, and information to meet the need of citizens striving to
improve the quality of life; and
WHEREAS, public libraries must be funded for adequate
information resources, staff, and facilities to meet the needs
of the people; and
WHEREAS, because of inadequate local funding, the resources
of Central Arkansas Library System are decreasing annually; and
WHEREAS, national data reflects that local funding for the
support of Arkansas public libraries is the lowest in the nation;
and
WHEREAS, it is essential to our community's continued growth,
health, and development to have a well funded, modern public
library to provide information resources to all citizens; and
WHEREAS, under the rollback provisions of Amendment 59 the
citizens of Little Rock will have an opportunity to restore four
tenths (.4) mill to the funding of Central Arkansas Library
System in the November election.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock,
hereby supports the efforts of Central Arkansas Library Supporters
to pass the four tenths (.4) millage issue and encourages the
citizens of Little Rock to vote for the Library Millage on
November 4, 1986 at the General Election.
SECTION 2. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption.
