2 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE LITTLE ROCK
3 SCHOOL DISTRICT MILLAGE INCREASE TO BE VOTED
4 ON IN AN ELECTION HELD ON MAY 9, 2000; AND FOR
5 OTHER PURPOSES.
6 WHEREAS, the Little Rock School District has identified many needs with respect to
7 school district facilities, including the need to repair and refurbish buildings; and
8 WHEREAS, the school district has also identified a number of needs in the area of
9 technology upgrades in order to provide the best possible education for its students; and
10 WHEREAS, the education of the City's youth is a critical aspect to the health, safety and
11 welfare of the citizenry; and
12 WHEREAS, in order to meet the needs described above, it is necessary to acquire additional
13 funding; and
14 WHEREAS, a millage increase proposal is to be voted on at an election to be held on May
15 9, 2000.
16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
17 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
18 Section 1. The Board of Directors recognizes that the education of students in the Little
19 Rock School District is greatly affected by both the physical environment in which they are placed
20 as well as the available technology for use in classroom instruction. The Board further recognizes
21 and acknowledges the needs identified by the Little Rock School District for repair of existing
22 facilities as well as necessary upgrades to technological equipment for use in the classroom. In order
23 that adequate funding is available for these critical elements of education, the Board hereby expresses
24 its support of the proposed millage increase to be voted on in an election held May 9, 2000.
