3 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
4 MANAGER TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT
5 NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE SOCIETY FOR THE
6 PRESERVATION OF THE MOSAIC TEMPLARS
7 BUILDING ( SPMTB) FOR DISPOSITION AND
8 RENOVATION OF THE MOSAIC TEMPLARS BUILDING.

10 WHEREAS, the Mosaic Templars Building, constructed ca. 1911, purchased
11 by the City of Little Rock in 1992 for $110,000, was a focal point for early 201"
12 century African - Americans in Little Rock; and
13 WHEREAS, the structure is intact architecturally, and is listed on the National
14 Register of Historic Places; and
15 WHEREAS, the SPMTB is a cooperative team of partners experienced in
16 each off their respective fields, and vitally interested in the structure's rehabilitation
17 and reuses; and
18 WHEREAS, according to their proposal the structure will be used for offices, retail;
19 commercial and museum uses indicating an estimated rehabilitation and site development
20 cost of $2.6 million.
21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
22 OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
23 SECTION 1. The City Manager is authorized to enter into contract negotiations with
24 the Society for the Preservation of the Mosaic Templars Building to establish conditions for
25 the disposition, renovation and adaptive reuse of the Mosaic Templars Building.
26 SECTION 2. This resolution authorizes contract negotiations only as no impact to
27 City budgets will be incurred by contract negotiation activities.
