A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE EFFORTS OF THE CENTRAL

i HIGH MUSEUM, INC. TO HAVE CENTRAL HIGH DESIGNATED A
NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE BY THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICES.
WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock, Arkansas (the "City ") acknowledges the need for a
partnership between the National Park Services, Central High Museum Board, the Little Rock
School District, the Central High Neighborhood and the City; and
WHEREAS, the events of 1957 at Central High have played a significant role in the civil
rights movement; and
WHEREAS, in 1995, the Central High Museum Board began work to develop a Visitor
Center & Museum to collect, preserve and display items which chronicle the history of the school;
and
WHEREAS, Central High was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977,
and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1982, and the Central High neighborhood was listed
in a Historic District in 1996; and
WHEREAS, the significance, suitability and feasibility of Central High meets all
requirement of the National Park Service.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The Board of Directors wholeheartedly endorses the efforts of the Central
High Museum Board to achieve the full status of a National Historic Site for Central High School.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk is directed to enter this resolution as part of the official record
for Central High's application as a National Historic Site and to forward a copy of this resolution
to the Honorable Dale Bumpers, Honorable Tim Hutchinson and the Honorable Vic Snyder.
