A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ACCEPT BIDS AND AWARD A
CONTACT TO UNUM FOR LONG -TERM
DISABILITY INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR
NONUNIFORM CITY EMPLOYEES FOR A TWO
YEAR PERIOD EFFECTIVE MAY 1, 1998.

WHEREAS, the City provides long -term disability coverage for nonuniform employees; and
WHEREAS, a Request for Proposal was issued in February, 1998; with nine responses received
by the established deadline.
WHEREAS, UNUM proposed the lowest premium rate in response to bid specifications.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The City Manager is authorized to accept bids and enter into a contract with
UNUM, the low bidder meeting specifications, for long -term disability insurance coverage for
nonuniform City employees for a two year period effective May 1, 1998.
SECTION 2. Funds for this project were included in the 1998 budget process. The premium
rate proposed by UNUM represents a 17.2% reduction in the premium rate compared to the current rate.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption.
