SHOOTING IN BONO, ARKANSAS, MARCH 24, 1998.
167
WHEREAS, the shooting incident that took place at Westside Middle School in
Bono, Arkansas, on March 24, 1998, was a tragedy of the most extreme degree; and
WHEREAS, the lives of four young girls - Natalie Brooks, Brittney Varner, Paige
Ann Hering, and Stephanie Johnson, and a sixth -grade teacher, Mrs. Shannon Wright - were
taken prematurely in an act of senseless violence; and
WHEREAS, at times when we struggle to make sense of such a terrible tragedy we
must remember that God is sovereign and His plan is beyond the comprehension of mere
mortals; and
WHEREAS, we can do our part to make sure this kind of tragedy never happens
again by taking responsibility for that minute segment of the world over which we have
control and striving to achieve the highest level of personal integrity and exhibiting non-
conditional love for our neighbors.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE MAYOR AND LITTLE ROCK BOARD OF
DIRECTORS SENDS ITS SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILIES AND
FRIENDS OF VICTIMS OF THE WESTSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL SHOOTING, AND
ASK THAT THE ENTIRE CITY, STATE AND NATION JOIN US IN THIS
EXPRESSION OF LOVE AND HOPE FOR A BETTER TOMMOROW.
