10242� 165 t RESOLUTION NO. 10,242 2 3 A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR AN AGREEMENT 4 BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE UNITED STATES POSTAL s SERVICE TO ASSURE THE SAFETY OF POSTAL DELIVERY ° 6 MEN AND, TO STOP THE PROPOSED USE OF CURB 7 SIDEDELIVERY ONLY WITHIN CERTAIN a NEIGHBORHOODS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 9 to WHEREAS, up to ten percent (10 %) of the postal delivery workers with routes in that portion I of the City that have a 72204 zip code have been attacked or injured by stray dogs, and 12 WHEREAS, in order to assure the safety of these workers, the United States Postal Service 13 (USPS) proposed the use of curb side delivery only into mail boxes erected at the curb, and 14 WHEREAS, the involved neighborhood associations, Ward 2 Director Willie Hinton, and is Mayor Jim Dailey, met with officials of the postal service and offered a proposal to answer the 16 concerns about worker safety in return for a 60-day moratorium on the decision to use curb side 17 delivery only, and to WHEREAS, this program, which will require some intensive efforts by the City's Animal 19 Control Division, was discussed and agreed to by the City Manager, and 20 WHEREAS, not only will this program hopefully alleviate the problem in this neighborhood, 21 but will also help to develop a system that can be used by other workers such as water or sewer meter 22 readers, electric and gas meter readers, and other utility repair workers, 23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE 24 CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: 25 SECTION 1. The Board of Directors endorses the efforts to assure front porch delivery of 26 mail in certain portions of the 72204 mail route, associated with the Asher Station, and pledges to 27 use the resources of the Animal Services Division to help in this effort, understanding that the USPS 28 will suspend for 60 days its intention to demand curbside delivery only within this neighborhood in 29 order to give the cooperative effort a chance to work while assuring postal worker safety. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 SECTION 2.
