A RESOLUTION OF INTENT TO RENAME A
PORTION OF EAST AND WEST MARKHAM
TO PRESIDENT CLINTON AVENUE; AND FOR

WHEREAS, the City has been informed that President William Jefferson
Clinton has decided to locate his Presidential library within the City of Little
Rock, Arkansas, in a location on the riverfront immediately east of Interstate
30, and
WHEREAS, the street that extends from this location to the Union
Pacific train terminal is currently designated as East Markham, or West
Markham, and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to rename the street which traverses from
the City railway station, the 19th century symbol of economic development and
prosperity, to the site of the Clinton presidential library which, with its
emphasis on information technology, will be a true symbol of the possibilities
for the 21 st century, and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that at the beginning of the 21st century,
this street be renamed to honor Arkansas' only President,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF
DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. The Board of Directors states its intent to rename portions
of East and West Markham Street from the Union Pacific Railway station to
the site of the Clinton Presidential Library as President Clinton Avenue
effective on January 1, 2000.

3 ordinances to the Board of Directors as soon as practicable.
